•oUR BELoVED MASTER• 160 Similarly, another man told the Holy Prophet sa about the killing of his daughter, “My daughter was just two years old when I decided to bury her alive. I took her to the woods and when I started burying her, my daughter held on to the corner of my clothes with her tiny hands. I yanked her off my clothes and quickly filled in the hole. Until I finished flattening the ground, I could hear her calling out to me, ‘Father! Father!’ from within the hole. ” How did this cruel tradition come to Arabia? Nu‘m a n bin Mundhir the King of H i rah, to whom they paid their taxes, ruled the people of Ban u Tam i m. But later the people of Ban u Tam i m became rebellious and stopped paying their taxes to King Nu‘m a n bin Mundhir. King Nu‘m a n bin Mundhir sent his brother in command of some of his army and they marched towards the tribe. They took many of the lambs, goats and camels as well as many of their women. Afterwards, the tribes became very remorseful and sent the leaders of the tribe to King Nu‘m a n bin Mundhir to ask forgiveness for their transgressions, to pledge loyalty to him and to pay their dues.
