15 15 15 15 15 B ASICS OF R ELIGIOUS E DUCATION - F IFTH E DITION In the preceding sections we have discussed our duties towards Allah. This chapter deals with our duties towards our fellow human beings. All of these rules of conduct are based on the following sources: ♦ The Holy Qur’an, which is the revealed word of God and contains broad principles of guidance. ♦ The Sunnah, which is the practical example of the Holy Prophet sa to demonstrate Qur’anic principles. ♦ The Hadith, which is the spoken word of the Holy Prophet sa and serves as a supporting witness for Sunnah. A brief discussion of the broad principles of social and moral conduct: Acts of worship without service to humanity are not acceptable to Allah. The rights of human beings are as important as the rights of Allah. In specific cases, even more emphasis has been laid on the service to humanity. The Holy Prophet sa says: “One who, does not show mercy (to people) will not be shown mercy (by Allah)”. This saying of the Holy Prophet sa teaches us another important principle of social conduct. We must try to follow the attributes of Allah in our daily lives. As a result of this, Allah’s attributes would become operative in our favour. For instance, if we forgive our fellow human beings, Allah will forgive us. Verily, you have in the Prophet of Allah an excellent model…(33:22) This verse of the Holy Qur’an tells us that Prophet Muhammad sa was a perfect model for the whole mankind. Therefore, It becomes, possible for us to adopt good morals by following his noble examples.
