Reply to the doubts raised by rashĪd a H mad gangohĪ 535 Maryam [ Jesus son of Mary]—and not ‘the like of ‘ I s a ’—in both the Gospel and the a ha d i th of the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. The answer to this misconception is that it was essential that Almighty God should have described the Khalifah of the first part of Islam and the Khalifah of the last part of Islam in the same style in which it was described in the earlier scriptures. Thus, it is not hid- den from anyone that the prophecy in the Torah regarding the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, is in similar phraseology, and that is: ‘God Almighty shall raise up a Prophet like unto M u s a from among your brethren. ’ It was not written there that God Almighty would send M u s a. So it was essential that, in keeping with the prophecy of the Gospel, the last Khalifah of Islam should have been named ‘ I s a so that no discord would develop between the Gospel and the a ha d i th of the Holy Prophet s as.
