B AR Ā H Ī N-E-A H M ADIY YA — PART F IV E 486 1 ىٰۤسْيِعٰي ْيِّنِا َكْيِّفَوَتُم َو َكُعِفاَر َّيَلِا referred to ‘ I s a , may peace be upon him, the verse as it appears in the previous parts of Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya was revealed in my favour. The reason is that just as the Jews believed, on the basis of their edicts of disbelief against Hadrat ‘ I s a , that his soul was not raised towards God, the same belief is held by the opponents of (my) people with regard to me; i. e. , they say this man is a disbeliever and his soul will not be raised towards God. It is to refute them that Almighty God says to me, ‘I will raise your spirit toward Me after your death. ’ And in the words اِنّی متوفّیك [‘I will cause you to die’] is concealed another prophecy, and it is that توفّی [ tawaffi ] in the Arabic language means causing someone to die a death which is a natural death, and not through murder or crucifixion. This is just as ‘All a mah Zamakhshari in his Tafs i r Kashsh a f with regard the same verse— یا عیسٰی إنّی متوفّیك [‘O Jesus, I will cause you to die’]—has given the following explanation:. إنّی ممیتك حتف انفك Meaning that, I will give you a natural death. Since God knew that the same attempt will be made to kill and crucify me as was made with regard to Hadrat ‘ I s a , may peace be upon him, He—therefore—told me by way of prophecy the very same: یا عیسٰی انّی متوفیك Meaning: ‘O Jesus, I will cause you to die. ’ It had the hint that He would save me from being killed or crucified. It is obvious that many efforts were made to get me killed or crucified and the ulema of the [Muslim] nation issued edicts for my murder. A false case was also made against me to get me hanged, in which Dr. Martyn Clark was the plaintiff, and Maulaw i Ab u Sa‘ i d Muhammad H usain Bat a law i was among the witnesses. 1. O Jesus, I will cause you to die a natural death and will exalt you to Myself ( S u rah A l-e-‘Imr a n, 3:56). [Publisher]
