APPE N DI X to B AR Ā H Ī N-E-A H M ADIY YA — PART F IV E 379 The religion of Islam is being destroyed day after day by such false beliefs but you people are exulting; رُبد ہ اقع دئ ت ی ر و قن د � اش د و � ی ا ر آزر د ه د انمش ں Your beliefs have demolished the splendour of the Faith; Enemies are happy, but the friends are sad. It appears that prior to this ijm a ‘ upon the death of all Prophets, may peace be upon them, some of the less-informed Companions, who lacked perspicacity, were still unaware of the doctrine that all Prophets had died, and this was the reason why [Ab u Bakr] S idd i que, may Allah be pleased with him, needed to recite this verse to them. Upon hearing this verse, they all became convinced that all the people of the past had been consigned to their graves. It was in this context that H ass a n bin Th a bit, may Allah be pleased with him, wrote these few couplets as elegy for the Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in which he has alluded to this. These are: كنت َ السّواد لناظری فعمی علیك الناظر من شاء بعدك فلیمت فعلیك كنت احاذر (Translation): You were the pupil of my eye, so I became blind with your demise. After you, it makes no difference to me if someone (be it Jesus or Moses) dies, for I was only fearful of your demise. May God reward him the best reward [for these verses]. This indeed is called love. 1 ٭ 1. ٭ Hadrat Ab u Bakr S idd i que has done such a great favour to this Ummah that it cannot be adequately thanked. Had he not gathered all the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, in the Prophet’s Mosque and recited this verse to them that all the previous Prophets had died, the Ummah would
