BarĀhĪn-e-a H madiyya — Part Four 324 equal in His works to claim partnership with Him on account of the working relationship. Thus, it has been made clear that God Almighty is free from associates of all four types, and is One, without associate. After this, it [the Holy Quran] sets forth a rational argument in support of His being One, without associate, by stating: 1 ْوَل َناَك ۤاَمِهْيِف ٌةَهِلٰا اَّلِا ُهّٰللا اَتَدَسَفَل 2 اخل َو اَم َناَك ٗهَعَم ْنِم ٍهٰلِا. Meaning that, had there been any other god in heaven or earth— besides the One who is the Possessor of all perfect attributes—both [heaven and earth] would have been corrupted; for, at times, this plu- rality of gods would inevitably have acted against one another, and their discord and conflicts would have resulted in plunging the uni- verse into chaos. Moreover, in the case of separate creators, each one of them would have worked for the welfare of his own creation, for whose comfort he would have considered it permissible to destroy oth- ers. This, too, would have led to chaos in the universe. Thus far, the proof of Allah’s being One, without a partner, has been furnished through dal i l-e-limm i. 3 After this, dal i l-e-inn i 4 is pro- vided to establish His being One without a partner; it is stated: 5 اخل ِلُق اوُعْدا َنْيِذَّلا ْمُتْمَعَز ْنِّم ٖهِنْوُد اَلَف َنْوُكِلْمَي َفْشَك ِّرُّضلا ْمُكْنَع َو اَل اًلْيِوْحَت. Meaning: ‘Say to the polytheists and the deniers of the Exalted Maker’s existence that—now that they are being pressed hard by the arguments 1. S u rah al-Anbiy a ’, 21:23 [Publisher] 2.
