Number Four 145 2. His second name is Ahmad, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. This name is mentioned in the New Testament, and it reflects Divine teaching in a jam a l i [benevolent] form as is expressed by this verse: 1 َواًۢرِّشَبُمٍلْوُسَرِب ْيِتْاَّي ْۢنِم يِدْعَب ۤٗهُمْسا ُدَمْحَا And our Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, possessed both jal a l [grandeur] and jam a l [grace] to perfection. His Makkan life possessed a jam a l i tone, while his Madinah life exhibited a jal a l i [glorious] character. And then both these attributes were distributed among his followers such that his Companions, Allah be pleased with them all, were bestowed a jal a l i life, whereas the Promised Messiah was made a reflection of the jam a l i character of the Holy Prophet, may peace and bless- ings of Allah be upon him. This is indeed why it is said about the Promised Messiah: 2 َ یَضَع ُ الْحَرْب —that is, 3 ٭ he will not engage in warfare, and this was a promise of God Almighty in the Holy 1. And giving glad tidings of a Messenger who will come after me. His name will be Ahmad ( S u rah a s - S aff, 61:7). [Publisher] 2. Matters were so extreme at the time of Hadrat M u s a [Moses] that even accepting the faith could not save a person from being killed, even nursing infants were killed. Then, in the time of our Holy Prophet, may peace and blessings of Allah be on him, the killing of children, the elderly and women was forbidden; and then for some peoples it was made acceptable just to pay Jizyah in lieu of ac- ceptance of Islam to escape punishment. And then in the time of the Promised Messiah, the commandment of jihad [as a religious war] was definitely stopped. Author
