THE RENAISSANCE OF ISLAM 7S mentioned in my announcement. But if the prophecy is fulfilled in a manner in which the operation of Divine wrath is clearly perceived then you must understand that it is from God. . . . It is quite untrue that I bear any personal enmity towards Lekh Ram or towards any other person. This man has proved himself the enemy of truth and has spoken contemptuously of the perfect and holy being who is the fountainhead of all truth. Lekh Ram on his side announced that Ahmad would die of cholera within three years, for he was an impostor (Takzeeb Braheen Ahmadiyya, p. 3I I). On 6 March 1897, on the day following the Festival of Sacrifice, Pandit Lekh Ram was attacked in his own house in Lahore by a well-built person who thrust a dagger into his abdomen and rotated it in his body, thus severing his entrails
