In h is child- hood he committed the entire text of t he Holy Ouran to mem- ory , and thus ac quire d the dis- tinction of becoming a Hafiz-Quran. He re- ceive d his Bachelor's degree and t he degree of Honors in Arabic fr om the Punjab Univer- sity. He purs ue d h is post-gradua te studies at th e Balliol College at Oxford Un ive rsi ty f rom wh ich he earned a Maste r' s deg re e. He was elected as the Khalifa in 1965 after the death of Hazrat Mirza Bas h irud in Mah m ood Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih II. He tre m endous ly expanded the mi ssionary activ iti es of the Community strengt h en in g our missions in Europe , Afr i ca, and America. As the supreme head of the Ah mad i yya Movement in Islam, he trave lle d extensively in var i ous parts of Europe, Africa and America.
