— Part I 48 the excellence of all material forms of existence on earth depend upon their being in harmony with heavenly principles. Likewise, it is quite sensible to draw the lesson that genuine heavenly people are better fitted to lead the rest of the world in everything good. … …And We caused everything to grow therein in proper proportion. (S u rah al- H ijr; Ch. 15: V. 20) Everything in the earth grows under the influence of the supreme law of nature of absolute justice. There is no option but to follow it. The Divine laws of nature seem to control all areas of growth on earth. In this context the use of the Arabic word Ambatn a or 'we caused to grow' requires special attention. Commonly it is believed that this word is used only in reference to the phenomena of vegetative growth. This is not true. The Holy Quran uses the same word in application to human birth and development as well. In S u rah al-N uh verse 18, the same word Nab a t is used in direct application to the creation of man on earth and his subsequent development.
