— Part I 40 God has perfected the heavens, and each one of them is functioning in accordance with the purpose of its creation. Then the Holy Quran refers to the lowest atmospheric layer as the nearest heaven to the earth, and points out that it has been created for the protection of the earth. The most that man of that age could understand was that heaven was somehow protecting them. No one had the faintest idea as to what he was being protected from and why he was being protected. One definition of justice is to fully comprehend what we are drawing attention to. It is essential to observe that absolute justice does not permit any part to interfere with the role of other parts. As far as the harmful effects are concerned, every part of the system is fully protected and insulated against their negative influence. For the beneficial aspects of the mechanism, their flow is not barred from reaching other parts but instead is promoted to the maximum (this is not against the concept of justice). Having understood this, we shall realize that the function the nearest heaven is performing for the implementation of justice, in application to the material world, should be described as perfect balance and harmony. Let us now examine the role that various layers of atmosphere around the globe are playing. It should be remembered that although the nearest heaven seems to indicate one single entity of a heaven, in reality this heaven is further divided into many spheres. It is with
