Justice in Speech 349 type of moral behaviour is to have true sympathy at heart for others without hypocrisy and without adorning one’s speech with flattery and false praises. As Allah the Exalted admonishes: ' 57 The verse quoted by the Promised Messiah as , is the same as the title of my address. It categorizes one’s speech in three stages. The first is to be just in speech. The second is to be more than just and to be truly kind. The third is to be more than just kind and to speak to others as though they are one’s next of kin, like a mother speaks to her beloved child. As for as the first stage, that is of justice, is concerned, according to the Holy Quran, the quality of justice of a claimant is put to the test when he is required to give evidence against someone or some people close to him. This has been mentioned in the following verse. … … …And when you speak, observe justice, even if the concerned person or persons be a next of kin… (S u rah al-An‘ a m; Ch. 6: V. 153) The phrase Dh a Qurb a is generally understood to be applicable to close relatives who are dearer to one than just friends, but this phrase has a wider application. It can be extended to cover one’s tribe and the party to which one has sworn allegiance. With
