So he went home, and because he was sincere, after some time he came back. This time he was not an emissary but simply an emigrant. 50 On another occasion, a Meccan by the name of H uzaifa bin Yam a n ra came to the Holy Prophet sa during the Battle of Badr. He told him that he came with the intention of joining him in the battle against the Meccans but the Meccans had somehow sensed it. Therefore they had taken a verbal promise from him not to fight against the Meccans. The Holy Prophet sa admonished him to return without participating in the battle to fulfil his promise, adding that his God was sufficient to help them. 51 Glory be to Allah, what a paragon of virtue he was. He had every right to remind him that because his contract was made under duress it was not binding upon him. But it was far below the dignity of the Holy Prophet sa to have taken such a stance. Woe to the so- called Muslim mullahs of today, that their conduct is far removed from that of the Holy Prophet sa. The Prophet Muhammad sa did not only commit himself to honour his own pledges, but also honoured the contracts of his Companions, despite the fact that they were not authorised by him to make them on his behalf. Here it remains no longer a matter of justice but aquires the higher stage of I h s a n.
