327 21 Covenants with Non - Muslims, Treaties and Contracts It is a distinguishing feature of the Holy Quran that all treaties are spoken of as inviolable between all humans, whatever their religion or race be. This is a teaching which is applicable to the entire mankind of every age. The following verse speaks of the Muslims’ contracts even with idolaters with the same sanctity: Excepting those of the idolaters with whom you have entered into a treaty and who have not fallen short of fulfilling their obligations to you nor aided anyone against you. So fulfil to these the treaty you have made with them till their term. Surely, Allah loves those who are righteous. (S u rah al-Taubah; Ch. 9: V. 4) This is an exquisite example of absolute justice. Allah admonishes that We do not hold you responsible only for the covenants you have made with Me and My other Prophets as , We also hold you responsible for the convenants you make even with the idolaters. Again,
