— Part III 284 possible that the same true and trustworthy person, who never spoke a lie about his fellow human beings, was reproached for making a false claim against God? Thus his opponents, who largely belonged to Mecca, were reminded that they themselves were the erstwhile witnesses of his blameless character and truth, an argument which they could not refute. It is noteworthy that by pointing to his previous life before the claim, the Holy Prophet sa implied that after the claim he is no longer spared of all blemishes and accusations. All true Prophets as are treated in the same way. During their life prior to the claim and during their life after the claim they are portrayed entirely differently. The same people who were previously lauded for being the best of the true are now being dubbed as the worst of the false. After the claim of Prophethood all are accused of the worst crimes. History relates no exception to this rule. The enemies of Prophets as begin to allege after the claim is made that their life was not blameless even before. They may make these allegations, but they cannot produce the least evidence that they (the Prophets) were ever accused of even the slightest crime in their past life. This Quranic argument applies universally to all Prophets as of all ages; none was spared this fate.
