— Part III 260 Allah bears witness that there is no God but He—and also do the angels and those possessed of knowledge—Maintainer of justice; there is no God but He, the Mighty, the Wise. (S u rah al -e-‘Imr a n; Ch. 3: V. 19) Now, who has heard this claim from Allah and how should we know that He has made this claim? We can put this to the test from many angles. In the first place, no counterevidence exists. There is no claimant to godhead other than God Himself, who has ever made this claim that he also exists besides God. The only claim to this effect, that gods other than God exist, is made by humans. Hence, this lack of counterevidence is virtually a strong evidence in favour of Allah’s claim. Had there been others they should have loudly counterclaimed 'we too exist, we too exist, we too exist', filling the universe with their noise, but this did not happen. Thus, for those who believe in any concept of a single or plural godhead, the aforementioned lack of counterevidence should suffice. But as for those people who do not believe in God, for them the Holy Quran presents another type of evidence which we shall mention later.
