107 7 Violations of Justice If someone investigates with an open mind the root cause of all evils, whether social, political, economic or moral, he will always find it to be injustice. The world cannot become an abode of peace until man adheres to justice. When injustice, tyranny and oppression take hold, evil is born and destruction is let loose. If man is not just in his obligations to God, then it is quite unlikely that he will be just to his fellow human beings. It must be remembered that no one can trifle with the dictates of justice without exposing himself to the danger of falling victim to the punishing consequences. Such punishment is not related to the wrath of God as if descended from heaven, but is a natural outcome of the violation of the laws of nature. None is above the dominion of natural laws. Here too God’s mercy, forgiveness and benevolence become operative, with the result that man is not punished for each and every sin. But when his transgression exceeds certain prescribed limits, the protective shield of benevolence is withdrawn and nothing can stand between him and punishment. The Quran describes this as follows:
