Burial of the Body —The rich man Joseph went to Pilate and begged the body of Jesus, and Pilate without making any enquiry, as Matthew and John state, and after inquiring from the centurion about Jesus’ death, as Mark and Luke say, he per- mitted him to take the body. Then he alone wrapped it in a linen cloth and laid it in his own new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock, as Matthew, Mark, and Luke say, and he and Nicodemus both, as John states, laid him in the sepulchre. 1.
