If therefore you seek me, let these go their way. ’ Then Peter cut off the right ear of the High Priest’s servant. Then they took Jesus and bound him. 1 3. Timing of Peter’s Attack —Luke and John say that the ear of the High Priest’s servant was cut off before the arrest of Jesus, but Matthew and Mark say it was cut off after his arrest. 4. The End of Judas —Matthew says that Judas repented him- self and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders who refused to take them back, but he cast them down in the temple and went and hanged himself. The chief priests and elders took counsel and bought with the sum the Potter’s field to bury strangers in. Wherefore the field was called ‘the field of blood’. 2 The other three are silent on this point, but in the Acts, which is supposed to be written by Luke, we read, Peter said that Judas himself purchased that field with the reward of iniquity and falling headlong he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. 3 5.
