Chapter Four— Early Documentary Evidence In 1907 The Chicago Indo-American Book Co. published a book under the title ‘The Crucifixion by an Eye-Witness’. This book contained a letter discovered in Alexandria in a house owned and occupied by the order of ‘Essenes’. The letter was written only seven years after crucifixion by an highly esteemed member of the ‘Essenes’ brotherhood in Jerusalem to his brethren in Alexandria. It was written in reply to a letter from the leader of ‘Terapeut’ of Essenes Brotherhood in Alexandria who desired to know the real truth about the rumour that reached them relating to Jesus and his martyrdom, as they knew that he was their brother and lived in accordance with their rules. The letter proves that Jesus belonged to the ‘Essene Brotherhood’. The author of the letter assured his brethren in Alexandria saying:
