Chapter Fourteen—A Paramount Prophecy 211 they had not the proofs which would have convinced and satisfied them that Jesus (on whom be peace) had really died on the cross. In the verses Almighty God says that although it is true that Jesus was placed on the cross, and that they were determined to kill him, it is wrong for Jews and Christians to suppose that Jesus had really died on the cross; nay, God created circumstances which saved Jesus from death on the cross. If one is just, one must say that what the Holy Quran had said against what the Jews and Christians had believed turned out to be true. A mod- ern investigator of high merit has proved that Jesus was saved from death on the cross. A study of written record shows that Jews had never been able to reply to the ques- tion: ‘How was it that Jesus died within two or three hours, when his bones had not been broken?’ This led the Jews to manufacture the plea that they had killed Jesus with the sword; whereas the ancient history of the Jews does not say that Jesus had been killed by the sword. It was due to the Majesty and Power of God that it became dark, that there was an earthquake, that Pilate’s wife saw a vision, that the Sabbath night was about to fall, when it was unlawful to let the crucified body remain on the cross, and that the magistrate, because of the dream of his wife became inclined to release Jesus. All this was brought about by God to save Jesus. Also Jesus was made to go into a swoon that he might be taken for dead.
