? 102 Paul took this belief as a basis for the abolition of the Law and said: Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but [ Jesus] by his own blood entered in once into the holy place, hav- ing obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 1 Again he says: [ Jesus] in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins. 2 Christ died for our sins. 3 As far as the Gentiles are concerned, they believed the same con- cerning their gods as I will show in the following chapter.
