Understanding S al A t 174 ُ َِِّ وَالصَّلَوَات ُ وَالطَّيِبَات لل ُ اَلتَّحِيَّات All verbal worship is due to Allah and all physical acts of worship and financial sacrifices The word Ta h iyyah means, “Continuance, or endurance; or endless, or everlasting, existence. ” ( Lane’s Lexicon, Root: حى , Entry: ٌ ة َّ تَحِي ) Hadrat Khal ī fatul Mas ī h I V rta explained that when we say at-ta h iyy ā tu lill ā h in S al ā t, we say, “O Allah, endless life is yours, and we attain life from that life. ” ( Darsul Quran, Al Nis ā : 85-89, @ 1:01:15, 26 Dec 1998) Also, at-ta h iyy ā tu lill ā h means that all worships and pious intentions are exclusively for Allah and they are means of establishing a relationship with Allah the Almighty. When the words at-ta h iyy ā t, a s - s alaw ā t and a t - t ayyib ā t are read together, then in this context, the words take the mean- ing of verbal and physical worship and financial sacrifice. Hadrat Zainul ‘Ābidīn Waliyullāh Shāh ra explained, Ta h iyyah are those words of reverence by which kings used to be addressed. This ta h iyyah did not just have titles of praise, it also included prayers for the protection of these kings.
