But, since I have passed an austere and ascetic life, it is in my own humble way that I have engaged in assisting and supporting the British govern - ment. For nineteen years or thereabouts, I have spent time pub - lishing books in which it is mentioned that the Muslims ought to serve the government with heartfelt sincerity and should demon - strate greater loyalty and devotion than other peoples. It was for this purpose that I wrote certain books in Arabic and others in Persian, and disseminated them in faraway countries. In every one of these publications, through logical reasoning, I repeatedly urged and persuaded the Muslims to show obedience to the state with heart and soul. These books have been distributed as far as the Arab Peninsula, Syria, Kabul, and Bukhara. However, I have been informed that after reading them, certain ignorant clerics from among the Muslims have declared that I am a disbeliever. They consider my writings to stem from a secret and confidential alliance between myself and the British Empire, and they believe that I am remunerated by the government for this. However, I have come to know for certain that the hearts of some learned people have been positively influenced by my writ - ings and they have repented from the barbaric doctrines, which were leading them to act in contradiction to the objectives of the government. My writings on religious matters in opposition to the Christian priests have yielded very powerful results in cre - ating this positive attitude. In addition, I have strongly invited the Muslims to obey the government and have admonished the ignorant mullahs of the Frontier Region, who constantly create disturbances and incite the Afghans to rise in rebellion.
