8 with his own eyes the side on which the godly ulema and relia- ble scholarship are and the side on which the maulaw i s in name alone and the tongue-tied are. As the famous [Persian] adage goes, �ی�دہ ےک وبد امدنن د�ی�دہ ن � ش � [‘Hearing, when was it ever like seeing’]? A unilateral statement coming from the pen of a narrow-minded enemy never holds any weight or respect in the view of an intelli- gent person; rather, each and every truth becomes apparent at the time it is tested. Apart from this, Dr [Clarke] Sahib is also well aware that the seat of Islam’s reliable ulema is at the H aramain Shar i fain [Two Sanctuaries]— ً زادھما ا ہّٰللّٰ مَجۡدًا وشرفًا وبرکۃ [may Allah increase both holy sites in glory, honour, and grace]—and these very cities of Arabia, namely Makkah and Madinah, are considered the abode of the Faith. So, the beloved and reliable scholars of these blessed places are also joining with this humble one. Thus, as an illustra- tion, I am listing below the writings of three noble personalities.
