Upon this, Abdur Rahman ra admitted the truth of Abdullah’s remarks, and promised in future to follow his advice. All this is related in the Bukhari. Nevertheless, these people were so deeply attached to the Holy Prophet sa that Abdullah bin Mas‘ud ra , when he had finished his prayer, besought Allah to accept only two Rak ‘ at of his Namaz. Agreeably to this precedent, when I was told that the Khalifa had issued certain orders, I chose to comply with the same (although later on it transpired that the Khalifa had issued no such orders), and just as a Companion of the Holy Prophet sa had supplicated to God that only two out of the four Rak‘at of Namaz , performed by him might be accepted, similarly, when I returned to my residence, I also performed my Namaz again. Thus, it was a special favour of God that He gave me the opportunity to follow in all respects the example of the Companions of the Holy Prophet sa.
