1 INTRODUCTION Maulawi Muhammad Ali has recently published a book entitled The Split in which he has discussed the issues which have lately caused a division in the ranks of the Ahmadiyya Community. The Split The Split has been widely circulated in such parts of India where Urdu is not generally understood and in such countries outside India where the Movement has just begun to spread, and its raison d'etre, as stated by the author, is that he wants to appeal to the Ahmadiyya Community to make one united effort: to discard those false doctrines which, according to him, have been newly promulgated by me. Thus he writes: "I appeal to the good sense and moral courage of the Ahmadiyya Community to denounce these false doctrines with one voice before they take root like the false doctrines attributed to the Messiah".
