PRAYERS 70 Prayers for Recitation of the Holy Qur’ a n Before the recitation of the Qur’ a n , َ ْ اَﻋُﻮذُﺑِﺎﷲ ِ ﻣِﻦ ْ اﻟﺸَّﻴ ِ ﻄَﺎن ِ اﻟﺮَّﺟِﻴ ﻢ (I seek refuge in All a h from the accursed Satan ) should be said. ْٰ ْ ﺑﺴﻢ ِ اِﷲ ِ اﻟﺮَّمح ِ ﻦ ِ اﻟﺮَّﺣِﻴ ﻢ (In the name of All a h Most Gracious Ever Merciful) should also be said as we say before starting every important work as it carries blessings. Hadrat ‘Auf bin M a lik Ashja‘ i ra relates that he was standing with the Holy Prophet sa for s al a t when Holy Prophet sa recited S u rah Al-Baqarah. On every verse referring to mercy, he would pause and seek All a h 's mercy and on every verse referring to punishment, he would pause and seek protection from punishment. 113 Hadrat H udhaifah ra also mentions the Holy Prophet sa used to say 'Sub ha nall a h' wherever God's glory was referred. 114 Hadrat W a ’il bin H ujr ra relates that he heard the Holy Prophet sa recite S u rah Al-F a ti h ah and at the end he said ‘ A m i n’ in a prolonged manner. 115 Hadrat Ab u Maisarah ra relates that the angel Jibr a’i l (Gabriel) advised the Holy Prophet sa to say ' A m i n' at the end of the verses containing prayers in S u rah Al-Baqarah. 116 Hadrat J a bir bin ‘Abdull a h ra relates the Holy Prophet sa recited S u rah Ar-Ra h m a n in front of his Companions. They listened in silence. He said that even the jinns were better people than them. They say َ ْ ﻻ ِّﺑáَِء ٍ ﻣِﻦ َْ ﻧ ْ ﻌَﻤِک َ رَﺑَّﻨَﺎ ﻧُکَﺬِّب ُ وَﻟَک َ احل ُ ﻤ ﺪ (O Lord, we do not deny any of Your favours, so all praise belongs to You), whenever they hear the words ِ ﻓَﺒِﺎَی ِّ آﻻَء ِ رَﺑِّکُﻤَﺎ ﺗُکَﺬِّﺑٰﻦ (Which favours of your Lord would you twain deny?) 117 Hadrat ‘Uqbah bin ‘ A mir ra relates when the verse of S u rah Al-W a qi‘ah ْ ْﻓَﺴَﺒِّﺢ ْ ﺑِﺎﺳ ِ ﻢ ِ رَﺑِّک َ اﻟﻌَﻈِﻴ ﻢ (Glorify the name of your Lord, the Great), was revealed, the Holy Prophet sa
