Chapter 1 — Analysis of the Papal Lecture 103 dialogue to advance in a positive way? Some of the principles pre- sented by the Holy Quran in this regards are presented here: اًضْعَب اًباَبْرَا ْنِّم ِنْوُد ِهّٰللا١ؕ ْنِاَف اْوَّلَوَت اوُلْوُقَف اْوُدَهْشا اَّنَاِب َنْوُمِلْسُمْلُق َلْهَاٰۤي ِبٰتِكْلا اْوَلاَعَت ىٰلِا ٍةَمِلَك ٍۭءٓاَوَس اَنَنْيَب َو ْمُكَنْيَب اَّلَا َدُبْعَن اَّلِا َهّٰللا َو اَل َكِرْشُن ٖهِب أًـْيَش َّو بَعْضُنَا اَل َذِخَّتَي Say, O People of the Book! Come to a word equal between us and you—that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate no partner with Him, and that some of us take not others for Lords beside Allah’. But if they turn away, then say, ‘Bear witness that we have submitted to God. ( S u rah A l-e-‘Imr a n, 3:65) One principle that is defined here is that, initially, come together on the values that are shared. Purpose is to make such programs on shared values in collaboration that would benefit mankind at large. ْمُهَلَمَع َّمُث ىٰلِا ْمِهِّبَر ْمُهُعِجْرَّم ْمُهُئِّبَنُيَف اَمِب اْوُناَك َنْوُلَمْعَيَو اَل اوُّبُسَت َنْيِذَّلا َنْوُعْدَي ْنِم ِنْوُد ِهّٰللا اوُّبُسَيَف َهّٰللا اًۢوْدَع ِرْيَغِب ٍمْلِع١ؕ َكِلٰذَك اَّنَّيَز ِّلُكِل ٍةَّمُا And revile not those whom they call upon beside Allah, lest they, out of spite, revile Allah in their ignorance. Thus unto every people have We caused their doing to seem fair. Then unto their Lord is their return; and He will inform them of what they used to ( S u rah al-An‘ a m, 6:109) Here, respect of each other’s sentiments is taught. In arguments, especially in religious arguments, people generally fail to main- tain control of their emotions and in excitement, start denigrating each other’s deities which creates religious hatred and people drift
