?— A Reply to Pope Benedict XVI 246 َةَمْكِحْلا١ۗ َو ْنِا اْوُناَك ْنِم ُلْبَق ْيِفَل ٍلٰلَض ٍنْيِبُّمَوُه ْيِذَّلا َثَعَب يِف َنّٖيِّمُاْلا اًلْوُسَر ْمُهْنِّم اْوُلْتَي ْمِهْيَلَع ٖهِتٰيٰا َو ْمِهْيِّكَزُي َو ُمُهُمِّلَعُي َبٰتِكْلا َو He it is Who has raised among the Unlettered people a Messenger from among themselves who recites unto them His Signs, and purifies them, and teaches them the Book and wisdom, although they had been, before, in manifest misguidance ( S u rah al-Jumu‘ah, 62:3); ْمُكُمِّلَعُي اَّم ْمَل اْوُنْوُكَت َنْوُمَلْعَتۤاَمَك اَنْلَسْرَا ْمُكْيِف اًلْوُسَر ْمُكْنِّم اْوُلْتَي ْمُكْيَلَع اَنِتٰيٰا َو ْمُكْيِّكَزُي َو ُمُكُمِّلَعُي َبٰتِكْلا َو َةَمْكِحْلا َو Even as We have sent to you a Messenger from among yourselves who recites Our Signs to you, and purifies you, and teaches you the Book and Wisdom, and teaches you that which you did not know ( S u rah al-Baqarah, 2:152). اَم َقَلَخ ُهّٰللا َكِلٰذ اَّلِا ِّقَحْلاِب١ۚ ُلِّصَفُي ِتٰيٰاْلا ٍمْوَقِل َنْوُمَلْعَّيَوُه ْيِذَّلا َلَعَج َسْمَّشلا ًءٓاَيِض َّو َرَمَقْلا اًرْوُن َّو ٗهَرَّدَق َلِزاَنَم اْوُمَلْعَتِل َدَدَع َنْيِنِّسلا َو َباَسِحْلا١ؕ He it is Who made the sun radiant and the moon lam- bent, and ordained for it stages, that you might know the number of years and the reckoning of time. Allah has not created this but in truth. He details the Signs for a people who have knowledge ( S u rah Y u nus, 10:6). ْمُكِّبَّر َو اْوُمَلْعَتِل َدَدَع َنْيِنِّسلا َو َباَسِحْلا١ؕ َو َّلُك ٍءْيَش ُهٰنْلَّصَف اًلْيِصْفَتَو اَنْلَعَج َلْيَّلا َو َراَهَّنلا ِنْيَتَيٰا ۤاَنْوَحَمَف َةَيٰا ِلْيَّلا َو ۤاَنْلَعَج َةَيٰا ِراَهَّنلا ًةَرِصْبُم اْوُغَتْبَتِّل اًلْضَف ْنِّم And We have made the night and the day two Signs, and We erased the Sign of night replacing it with day and the Sign of day We have made alight, that you may seek bounty from your Lord, and that you may know the computation
