Chapter 3 — Holy Prophet and Wars 181 And Allah had already helped you at Badr when you were weak… ( S u rah A l-e-‘Imr a n, 3:124) That is, in the battle of Badr Muslims were insignificant in com- parison to the non-believers and, َو َّنِا اًقْيِرَف َنِّم َنْيِنِمْؤُمْلا َنْوُهِرٰكَلۙ … while a party of the believers were averse. ( S u rah al-Anf a l, 8:6) Some among them were averse to fighting and then there were some hypocrites who were not sincere with Muslims. ْذِا ُلْوُقَي َنْوُقِفٰنُمْلا َو َنْيِذَّلا ْيِف ْمِهِبْوُلُق ٌضَرَّم َّرَغ ِءٓاَلُؤٰۤه ْمُهُنْيِد١ؕ When the Hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a dis- ease said, ‘Their religion has deluded these men’. … ( S u rah al-Anf a l, 8:50) The outward condition of Muslims was such that the Holy Prophet s as was praying to Allah that if the Muslims are defeated that day, it would finish Islam, and no one would be left to wor- ship God. ( Muslim, Kit a bul Jihad ; Chapter: Help with Angels in Badr. Tradition No. 3309). The number and preparation was such that there were about 313 Muslims. ( S ī rat Ibn Hish ā m; Abū D ā wūd, Kit a bul Jihad ; Chapter: Regarding the Nafl in the Case of Detachment of the Army. Tradition No. 2367). They did not have adequate mounts or clothes or food.
