T E S T I MON Y OF T HE HOLY Q U R AN 68 performed this function in the early ages with respect to their scriptures, so much so that even the dots contained in the Torah were calculated. Rather, the safeguarding of the Holy Quran means both the safeguarding of the text and the safeguarding of the benefits and effects of the Quran. And, in accord with divine practice, this can be done only if from time to time deputies of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, appear who should enjoy all the bounties of Messengership by way of zill [reflection], and who should be bestowed all the blessings that are bestowed upon the Prophets. This magnificent purpose is indi - cated in the verse: َدَعَو ُهّٰللا َنْيِذَّلا اْوُنَمٰا ْمُكْنِم َو اوُلِمَع ِتٰحِلّٰصلا ْمُهَّنَفِلْخَتْسَيَل يِف ِضْرَاْلا اَمَك َفَلْخَتْسا َنْيِذَّلا ْنِم ْمِهِلْبَق َو َّنَنِّكَمُيَل ْمُهَل ُمُهَنْيِد يِذَّلا ىٰضَتْرا ْمُهَل َو ْمُهَّنَلِّدَبُيَل ْۢنِّم ِدْعَب ْمِهِفْوَخ اًنْمَا١ؕ 1 ْيِنَنْوُدُبْعَي۠ اَل َنْوُكِرْشُي ْيِب أًـْيَش١ؕ َو ْنَم َرَفَك َدْعَب َكِلٰذ َكِٕىٰٓلوُاَف ُمُه َنْوُقِسٰفْلا In fact, this verse serves to elaborate the meanings of the other verse: 2 اَّنِا ُنْحَن اَنْلَّزَن َرْكِّذلا َو اَّنِا ٗهَل َنْوُظِفٰحَل 1. Allah has promised to those among you who believe and do good works that He will surely make them Successors in the earth, as He made Successors from among those who were before them; and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them; and that He will surely give them in exchange security and peace after their fear: They will worship Me, and they will not associate anything with Me. Then whoso is ungrateful after that, they will be the rebellious ( S u rah an-N u r, 24:56). [Publisher] 2.
