T E S T I MON Y OF T HE HOLY Q U R AN 64 31. And send something ahead for yourselves; 32. Make not God a target for your oaths; 33. Do not detain women to make them suffer; 34. And those of you who die, their widows must not marry for four months and ten days; 35. If you divorce women, then send them away in a becoming manner; 36. If you are in a state of fear, then say your prayer on foot or riding; 37. If you give alms openly, it is, generally speaking, beneficial as people may emulate your good deeds; but if you give in secret and to the poor, it is better for you; 38. When you lend someone some money, write it down; and 39. Fear God with regard to paying your debts and do not leave any sum unpaid; 40. And have witnesses when you sell or buy something; 41. And if you be on a journey, and you find not a scribe, then let there be a pledge with possession; 42. And hold fast, all together, to the rope of Allah and be not divided; 43. And let there be among you a body of men who should invite to goodness, enjoin equity, and forbid evil; 44. Rush towards the forgiveness of Allah; 45. If someone’s wife dies, he shall have half of that which she leaves, if she has no child; 46. But if she has a child, then he shall have a fourth of that which she leaves, after the payment of any bequests.
