T E S T I MON Y OF T HE HOLY Q U R AN 86 1 اَّنِا ُنْحَن اَنْلَّزَن َرْكِّذلا َو اَّنِا ٗهَل َنْوُظِفٰحَل Meaning that, it is We who have sent down the Quran and We shall continue to safeguard it. Now, I am unable to understand—supposing that there remain none from among those who understand the Holy Quran, and those who believe in it with certainty based on personal experi - ence have all passed into oblivion—how has the Quran been safe - guarded? Does safeguarding it mean that the Quran, beautifully inscribed, would be preserved forever locked in boxes like certain treasures—buried safely under the earth, but of no use to anyone? Can anyone imagine that this is the intent of God Almighty by this verse? If this indeed is the intent, then such safeguarding is no excellence at all. Rather, such a claim is laughable and men - tioning such safeguarding would invite ridicule from the enemies. Because when the actual purpose is not achieved, then what ben - efit can there be from mere verbal safeguarding. It is possible that some copy of the Gospel or the Torah may similarly be found preserved in some pit. Moreover, thousands of books are found in the world, which are understood to be the composition of some author without any alteration. So what excellence is there in such safeguarding and what benefit can it bestow upon the ummah. It is true that the safeguarding of the text of the Holy Quran is greater than that of all other books in the world and is mirac - ulous, but we certainly cannot imagine that the Being of God Almighty, who always has spiritual objectives in sight, desired the 1.
