سال 1964ء 667 تاریخ احمدیت۔جلد 22 Peoples Conferences in Tunisia and Cairo۔He toured the United States in 1961 in his capacity as Mayor of Dar es Salaam۔In 1963 he was appointed Minister of Justice, a post he held until the formation of the United Republic when he became Minister for Community Development and National Culture, in the Union Cabinet۔Sheikh Amri's body was flown back to Dar es Salaam for burial on October 15۔Many people of all ranks and all races had gathered at the airport to await the body۔After the plane had arrived the coffin was accorded to Sheikh Abedi's home in Dar es Salaam۔The funeral which was escorted full military honours took place on the next day October 16, at Temeke Cemetery in Dar es Salaam۔President Nyerere headed more than 15,000 mourners at the funeral and among those who paid their last respects were the Prime Minister of Kenya, Mr۔Jomo Kenyatta, the Prime Minister of Uganda, Mr۔Milton Obote, First Vice-President of the United Republic, Sheikh Abedi Karume, Second Vice-President Kawawa, members of the Cabinet and the Zanzibar Revolutionary officials and friends۔In the afternoon Government offices and shops were closed and flags were flown at half-mast۔Sheikh Abedi leaves a widow with six children۔MAY GOD REST HIM IN PEACE۔
