سال 1964ء 666 تاریخ احمدیت۔جلد 22 Government, have made a great contribution to our progress۔In addition to his great work in promoting and developing our national language, Swahili will carry forward his memory throughout our history۔The late Minister went to Bonn two months ago for medical treatment of a suspected nervous disorder۔He was very weak and hardly able to speak or eat when he went there۔After long treatment during which doctors had tried to find the reason for his illness, he steadily recovered۔Three days before his death his condition deteriorated and he was unable to speak۔He had to communicate with his doctors by writing۔Sheikh Abedi was born in 1924 at Ujiji Kigoma Region and was educated at Tabora Secondary School۔He later joined the Postal Training School in Dar es Salaam in 1941 and was then engaged in missionary training۔In 1950 he was provincial secretary of the Tanganyika African Association, the forerunner of Tanu۔He studied at Rabwah College, West Pakistan, from 1954 to 1956 and took a degree in Theology, Arabic and Urdu۔He was first elected to the National Assembly in 1959 as Member for Kigoma۔He was the first African Mayor of Dar es Salaam holding this position for two years until he became Regional Commissioner for the then Western Region۔In 1960 and 1961 he represented Tanu at the All African
