Hadrat Anas relates that the Holy Prophet said: "A believer who recites the Holy Qur'an is like a tangerine, which tastes good and also has a pleasant smell; a believer who does not recite the Holy Qur'an is like a date, which tastes good but has no smell. A sinner who recites the Holy Qur'ān is like sweet basil flower (Ocimum pelosum) which smells pleasant but is bitter in taste; a sinner who does not recite the Holy Qur'ān is like a wild gourd, which does not smell good and also has a bitter taste.
