(American Edition) 93 “Within six years from today, February 20, 1893. this man will be overtaken by severe torment as a punishment for the disrespect which he has manifested towards the Holy Prophet. By announcing this prophecy, I inform all Muslims, Christians and followers of other religions that if this person is not overtaken within the period of six years from today by a torment that is distinguishable from ordinary suffering that should bear an extraordinary character and should be in the nature of Divine chastisement, then you can truly say that I have not been sent by God Almighty, nor do I speak under His spirit. ” Some people criticized the prophecy and said it was mere conjecture and anything could happen in six years. Ḥ a ḍ rat A ḥ mad replied that prophecy will be fulfilled in an extraordinary way. He also added that he did not bear any personal animosity to Lekh Ram or any other person but this man had proven himself the enemy of truth and had spoken contemptuously of the perfect Holy Prophet who is the fountainhead of all truth. Lekh Ram ridiculed the prophecy and announced that Ḥ a ḍ rat A ḥ mad would die of cholera within three years. Ḥ a ḍ rat A ḥ mad wrote in April 1893 about a vision he had, “This morning I saw that I was sitting in a large room wh ere some of my friends were present when a well-built man of ferocious appearance came and stood before me. . . As I looked at him he asked, ‘Where is Lekh Ram ? ’ Then I understood that this one had been appointed for the chastisement of Lekh Ram. ” In a Persian poem, Ḥ a ḍ rat A ḥ mad referred to Pandit Lekh Ram, “Beware O foolish and misled enemy Fear the cutting sword of Mu ḥ ammad. ” In an Arabic poem in his book, “Karā m ā tu ṣ - Ṣā diq ī n, ” Aḥ mad wrote that God had revealed to him that a mighty prophecy was to be fulfilled on a day next to an Eid Festival. This prophecy was fulfilled in a remarkable way on 6th March 1897. Lekh Ram was murdered in his well-guarded house in Lahore. It is said that the murderer was a fierce looking man who had come to him as a seeker after truth and had stayed with him for some time. He stabbed him in abdomen with a dagger and then disappeared. The murderer was never found. It happened on a Saturday, next to th e Muslim Festival of Eid on Friday. Lekh Ram’s death caused a great uproar. It was alleged that Ḥ a ḍ rat A ḥ mad must have conspired this murder to fulfill his prophecy. Ḥ a ḍ rat A ḥ mad dismissed the accusation, saying that it was God who had ordained it as He ha d revealed to him. It was a victory for Islām and had proved the truth of word of God. As a fellow human being, Ḥ a ḍ rat A ḥ mad was sorry for the fate of Lekh Ram and wished that he had followed his advice and save himself.
