96 happened, they gathered round the spot where the Holy Prophet had fallen. The Prophet soon returned to con sciousness. Abu Sufyaan, the enemy commander, who was then rejoic- ing with his men, shouted, ‘We have killed Muhammad’. The Holy Prophet told his followers to keep quiet. As there was no reply from the Muslim side, Abu Sufyaan became certain of the death of the Prophet. He cried aloud again, ‘We have killed Abu Bakr’. Still no reply came from the Muslims. Then the enemy com mander raised his voice and said, ‘We have killed Umar as well’. The Holy Prophet again told the Muslims to remain quiet. Abu Sufyaan then said, ‘Hurray, we have killed all three and raised the national cry in praise of Hubal, their god, saying, ‘Glory be to Hubal’. At this stage, the Holy Prophet told the Muslims to reply. ‘What shall we say, O Messenger of Allah?’ they asked. ‘Say, Allah alone is Great and Mighty. He alone is High and Honoured’, said the Holy Prophet. Hearing this reply the enemy was disappointed to know that the Holy Prophet, Abu Bakr and Umar were all alive.
