I will Stand by You The religion of Islam made a strong appeal to the weak and the oppressed. The slaves who suffered great hard ships, began to hope that the message of Islam might bring an end to slavery. Women, who were treated worse than animals, began to feel that the time might come when they would be given the rights due to them in the society. So a large number of the early con- verts came from such groups. As the number of Muslims grew larger, the Makkans started persecuting them, thinking that it would stop the further spread of Islam. The Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was no exception. His house was stoned. On many occasions, rubbish was thrown on him, as he passed by. In spite of all this opposition, the message of Islam continued to spread.
