122 The sword fell from the enemy’s hand, when he heard this. The Holy Prophet saw picked it up, moved away from under him, and took hold of the enemy. The position was now reversed. ‘Who can save you now?’, said the Holy Prophet saw. ‘No one’, exclaimed the man in terror. ‘Why do you not say ‘Allah’ ‘, asked the Holy Prophet saw. Hearing the noise of the scuffle, some of the Com panions of the Holy Prophet saw rushed to the spot and found the two in this situation. The Holy Prophet saw explained to them what had happened. Then the Prophet saw asked the man, ‘What do you think should be done to you? He replied, ‘Be a generous captor’. The Holy Prophet saw said, ‘Very well, you can go free’. When the man returned to his tribe, he told them the whole incident and said that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was a man whose mercy and forgiveness were beyond belief. This led him and his tribe to accept Islam.
