The Sinner And the Rebellious Sa‘dullah ً فَاسِقًا اَل ْ ئَام ِ أرٰی رُجَی ِّ وَمِن َ الل ً فَاسِقًا اَل ْ ئَام ِ أرٰی رُجَی ِّ وَمِن َ الل ٭ ِ٭ َ السُّفَھَاء نُطْفَۃ ً لَّعِیْنًا اْل ْ ِغُو َ السُّفَھَاء نُطْفَۃ ً لَّعِیْنًا اْل ْ غُو From among the sinners, I perceive one who is rebellious— A devil condemned and the spawn of fools. 1 ٭ ٌ شَکْس ٌ خَبِیْث ٌ مُفْسِد ٌ وَّمُزَوِّر ٌ ِشَکْس ٌ خَبِیْث ٌ مُفْسِد ٌ وَّمُزَوِّر ِنَحْس ٌ یُّسَمَّی السَّعْد َ فِي الْجُھ َاَلَء نَحْس ٌ یُّسَمَّی السَّعْد َ فِي الْجُھ َاَلَء He is evil-tongued, evil-minded, a mischief-monger, and a glib liar; An accursed one whom the ignorant have named Sa‘d. ُ َعِنِي ْ اِن َّ الْمُھَیْمِن َ یَنْظُر اْل ی َا ُ َعِنِي ْ اِن َّ الْمُھَیْمِن َ یَنْظُر اْل ْی َا َئِي اْل ْ قَادِر ٍ مَو ٍّ ْخَف ْ قَھْر َ رَب َئِي اْل ْ قَادِر ٍ مَو ٍّ خَف ْ قَھْر َ رَب O ye who invokes God’s curse upon me! [Beware,] God is watch- ing you! Fear the wrath of God, who is my All-Powerful Master. ِ ُ بِالْخُی َاَلَء َ تَمِیْس ْ اَرَاك اِنِّي ِ ُ بِالْخُی َاَلَء َ تَمِیْس ْ اَرَاك ِاِنِّي ِ النَّج ْاَلَء َ الطَّعْنَۃ َ یَوْم ِأَنَسِیْت ِ النَّج ْاَلَء َ الطَّعْنَۃ َ یَوْم أَنَسِیْت I see that you walk with conceit and arrogance— Do you not fear the day when you will die by the plague that wounds? 1. ٭ As I have already written, these few verses were written with a clear con- science when the ill-fated Sa‘dull a h’s use of abusive language had exceeded all bounds.
