116 دُعَائِي ْ دَوَاء ٌ مُجَرَّبٌ. اُرِي ْ قَوْمًا جَلَلً. وقَوْمًا اٰخَرِيْن َ جَمَالً. وَبِيَدِي ْ حَرْبَة ٌ اُبِيْدُبِهَا عَادَات ِ الظُّلْم ِ وَالذُّنُوْبِ. وَفِي الُْخْرٰى شُرْبَة ٌ اُعِيْدُبِهَا حَيَاة َ الْقُلُوْبِ. فَاْس ٌ لِلِْفْنَاءِ. وَاَنْفَاس ٌ لِلِْحْيَاءِ. My prayer is a tried and tested remedy. To one nation I dis- play my glory and majesty, and to another my beauty. In one hand, I carry weapons for destroying sin and iniquity. In my other hand, I carry a sweet syrup with which I revive souls; a hatchet to destroy and a breath of life to revive. ( Khu t bah Ilh a miyyah, p. 61–62, Ru ha n i Khaz a ’in, vol. 16) Similar claims can be found in the books of Muslim saints. The saints acquired such attributes through the Prophet Muhammad s as. For example, Hadrat Syed ‘Abdul Q a dir Jilani rta says: َ مَغْرِبًا و ِ شَرْقًا هللا َ ُ بِلَد ٍمَلَكْت و َ اِن ْ شِئْت ُ اَفْنَیْت ُ الَْنَام َ بِلَحْظَت In the East and in the West, everywhere I am master of God’s dominion. Should I desire, I could destroy God’s creation in the twinkling of an eye.
