In Deuteronomy 18: 18, 19 we read: "I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and I will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall not hearken unto My words which he shall speak in My name; I shall require it of him". . The following inferences flow from this passage: (i) Another Prophet was to be raised for the Jews, since it is said "I will raise them up a Prophet". (ii) Like Moses he would be the bearer of a law, since it is said "a Prophet. . . . . . like unto thee". (iii). He would be from among the Ismaelites, since it is said "A Prophet from among their brethren". (iv). Obedience to him would be binding upon the Jews. since the Prophet was to be raised for them. (v).
