128 speaking the truth ?" The holy Quran answers this question by saying: لَكُمْ مِنْعَادُ يُومٍ "For you (in this matter) is the time limit of a yaum". This word yaum the Holy Quran itself defines in another place: يُدَ بَرُ الأَمرُ مِنْ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يَعْرُجُ إِلَيْهِ في يوم كان مقدار، اَلْفَ سَنَةٍ مِمَّا تَعُدُّونَ ގ i. e. , God will first establish al-Amr (here means. Islam) on the earth, after which in the course of a thousand years it wil fly into the heavens. . This verse indicates the period of the inception and establishment of Islam, delineating two distinct epochs, with the duration of one specified as a thousand years, while the epoch that would precede it has been left unspecified, This period too however, has been specified by the Holy Prophet in a tradition for he said: وخَيْرُ ثُمَّ والقُرُونَ قَرِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلَونَهُم الاعوج ، لفيج "Best of all is my century, then the one to come after, and then the one next and then destruction. "
