44 – the story of al-haj Rashid ahmad american dream which troubled me about this proposal. I had seen three bottles of milk and the one with the oldest date was being presented to me, while the other two were more fresh. I interpreted the dream to mean that I was getting the least desirable of the three daughters of my teacher, as fresh milk is better than old milk. I brought this to the attention of the Second Khal ī fah ra. The Second Khal ī fah ra interpreted my dream much differently. He stated that if milk represents Islam, then the oldest Islam, that of the Holy Prophet saw , is the best and most pure. Therefore, I would be getting the best of the three daughters. The Second Khal ī fah ra proceeded to arrange my marriage with Sara Qudsia, and paid for all accommodations, including the bride’s dress and ring. We were married on November 14, 1950 and our nik ah form was signed by A. R. Dard who was N a zir Um ū r-e-Amma in Rabwah. The two witnesses who signed were Zahur Ahmad and Noorul-Haq. My wedding was the first time I wore a turban and I tied it myself because I did not want to explain to the Khal ī fah that I needed somebody else to do it for me. However, the turban was not tied as skillfully and tight as those who typically wear turbans. When Huzoor ra , who came to my wedding on crutches, looked at the way my turban was tied, he smiled and said, “ Yay yamla jat hai. ” 13 As I went to my home on the wedding night Hadrat Mirz ā Bash ī r Ahmad ra , the brother of the Khal ī fah ra , had brought me and my wife fresh fruits as a gift. 13 Rashid Ahmad had later asked M. M. Ahmad to define the words “ yamla jat ” and he said it meant “sly as a fox. ” [Writer]
