Glossary of Important Terms xi Khalifah : Caliph is derived from the Arabic word “ khal i fah, ” which means successor. In Islamic terminology, the word righ- teous “ khal i fah ” is applied to one of the four khulaf a’ who continued the mission of Hadrat Muhammad sa , the Holy Prophet of Islam.
