CHAPTER 25 The Holy Prophet Muhammad sa as a Great Judge 632 non-believing prisoners at the battle of Badr. Hadrat ‘Umar ra was incharge of the prisoners and tied the ropes of prisoners including that of Hadrat ‘Abb a s very tightly. These prisoners were kept in the compound of the prophet's mosque. Hadrat ‘Abb a s ra started to groan with pain. This grieved the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa a great deal and he was unable to sleep. Somehow the An sa r came to know about it and loosened the ropes of Hadrat ‘Abb a s ra. When H u du r sa realized this, he ordered the loosening of the ropes of all the prisoners. An sa r, seeing the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa 's love for his uncle suggested that Hadrat ‘Abb a s be released without ransom and set free. But the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa did not accept this offer and said to Hadrat ‘Abb a s, "You should pay your ransom as well as the ransom for your brothers Aqeel and Nofil along with the ransom for your ally ‘Utbah, as you are a rich person. " Hadrat ‘Abb a s said, " H u du r sa , I am a Muslim and the non-believers of Makkah have forced me to accompany them. " The Holy Prophet Muhammad sa replied, "God knows best, if what you say is truth then He would reward you. In the present situation you are like the other prisoners who had come to attack us, so a ransom would have to be paid. " So Hadrat ‘Abb a s paid forty 'Auqiyahs' as ransom. 7
