Muhammad sa The Perfect Man 17 wore open leather shoes with two laces, much like the slippers and sandals we wear these days. 39 The Holy Prophet Muhammad sa wore a silver ring with the words "Mu h ammad, Messenger of All a h" inscribed upon it. It was made for the purpose of sealing his letters. 40 For a long time he wore this ring on his right hand, but later he also wore it on the left. He would take it off when going into the lavatory, and move it around while performing ablution so that the whole finger could be washed. In his hand, he held a stick made of date-branch. In war, the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa wore a helmet and armour. He wore double armour during the Battle of U h ud. The links of one such armour broke and became embedded in the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa 's cheek. 41 Gait and manner of Conversation The Holy Prophet Muhammad sa was very dignified in gait and manner. His gait was light as though he was descending from a height. Hadrat Ab u Hurairah ra says: "I have never seen anyone walk faster than the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa. It seemed as if the earth was folding underneath him. We would become tired when walking with him, but there would be no signs of fatigue on him. He did not walk with his head held high, and he would keep his gaze low. " 42
