CHAPTER 6 Holy Prophet Muhammad sa 's Remembrance of All a h, glorifying Him and Being grateful To Him 118 Gratitude to Fellow Human Beings Our beloved Prophet sa used to do good in return for a wrong done to him. He used to say, ‘If a gift is given to someone, he should return a similar gift. If he is unable to do so, he should appreciate it, whosoever shows appreciation is grateful. Whosoever does not show appreciation has shown ungratefulness. 35 For repaying a good deed, the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa used to recite this verse of the Holy Qur’ a n ْ َّﻓَﻤَﻦ ْ ﻳ َﻌْﻤَﻞ َّﻣِﺜْﻘَﺎل ذَر ة ٍ ◌َ ًْ ﺧ ري َّا َ ﻳ ﺮ ٗ "Then whoso does an atom's weight of good will see it". (99:8) Sometimes he would reward ordinary acts of kindness in an extraordinary manner. Once he went to attend the call of nature and his young cousin ‘Abdull a h bin ‘Abb a s ra filled the container with water. When the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa came to know as to who had done that kindness, he prayed for ‘Abdull a h bin ‘Abb a s ra that may God grant him the wisdom and knowledge of the Holy Qur’ a n. 36 And give him deep understanding of faith. This prayer changed the life of ‘Abdull a h bin ‘Abb a s ra. 37 The Holy Prophet Muhammad sa arrived in Mad i nah and the An sa r gained the opportunity to serve him. Some offered their palm trees to him. When the wealth of Ban i Qurai z ah and Ban u Na di r was received as booty of the war, the Holy Prophet Muhammad sa took great care in repaying An sa r in order to return their gifts in the best manner. 38
